Lollies
Lollies look like a delicious ball of fun
Lollies feel like a sticky piece of tape
It sounds like a playgrond for kids.
It smells like a joyfilled day.
Mmm, tastes like melted sugar.
Inquiry Term Three – How in the world does it work? July 27, 2009

Today we looked at small machines.
Levers, wedges, wheels and axles, screws, pulleys, gears and inclined planes.
What do they look like?
Where might we find them?
Which ones might we use when making our karts for our trolley derby here at TAPS?
We are looking forward to our trip to the Hamilton Museum where we will learn more.
Already we have had Ethan come to school with his karts to share his knowledge and what he does to give us ideas.
His answer to a key question:
What is the best way to design a trolley to have it go the fastest?
“Have it as low as you can. Have the seat low because the lower your centre of gravity, the faster you will go.”
We definitely have some things to think about.
Halfway already! May 24, 2009

Boy does the term go fast when we’re so busy.
We are half way through the term already, (week 5) and
no posts so far this term.
In Room 20, we are flat tack with participating in J-Rock and our different electives as well as getting through maths, reading, spelling and writing in the two morning blocks.
We have made a fantastic start to our inquiry. Our big question is: What in the World Can We do? This means in terms of looking after our environment. We are mostly looking at the water and how we can look after it, conserve it and why do we need to do this. Later in the term we will be going on a Virtual Field Trip to check out how water is turned into power in New Zealand. A virtual field trip is when we will be taken on a field trip through using technology. It is a new experience for us AND for Miss Edwards! We can’t wait!

Boy this term is going so fast! Where has it gone?
Here is an update of what’s been happening in Room 20!
- Congratulations to Te Uruwhakarewa and Matthew on their appointments as class councillor and deputy class councillor. I know you will make us proud and be fantastic leaders in our school.
- Well done to those that participated at Interschool Swimming Sports. You represented Te Awamutu Primary extremely well. YOU should all be proud of your efforts.
- We had a visit from Harold and Nicky from the Life Education Trust last week. They took us a through a programme about Friends. We all learnt some fun games, how to identify a passive, or assertive, or an aggresive person and what the similarities and differences between being a friend and being friendly are.
- We have been putting together our Learning Journey books in preparation for taking them home at the end of the term to share with our families. In them you will find snippets of work from Term One.
- We have all completed our Special Agent Profiles for our inquiry ‘Who in the World are We?’ We are now creating a ‘Country Case File’ with a buddy about a country that we wanted to know more about.
- Sadly, one of our rock ‘n’ members of Room 20 is leaving us. Ollie, we will miss you and your shaggy hair! See you when you get back!
I think that’s enough for now. Keep looking out for more happenings in Rock n Room 20!
Congratulations! February 21, 2009

A hand is holding a water bottle, its actually a man with grey hair in a yellow CFA jacket. He is holding something in his other hand. Oh, its a koala bears hand and the man is giving the koala bear some water because it is in a burnt down forest. The forest has old burnt branches all over the ground and all of the trees are black. It must be very hot!

Well it is the end of the 2nd week of school already! Our house leaders have been voted for and will be announced at our assembly on Friday. Good luck to those who prepared a speech in order to become the leader of their house!
We have started to delve into our inquiry “Who in the World Am I?” Firstly we are looking out ourselves and finding out more about ourselves by creating a Special Agent Profile and having conversations with people at home about special things in our lives and things about our families, what makes us who we are…. Our Special Agent Profiles will be completed and ready to present to the class on Friday the 20th of February.
Miss Edwards is finding out alot about us!
We have many people dedicating themselves to leadership roles and activities around the school. For example, road patrollers, lunch monitors, Song Squad, PE Shed monitors and Class Councillors. Well done to those that have got involved!
We are getting ready for Swimming Sports next week with competitive and non-competitive swimming. We will be timing swimmers to choose those that will be able to attend Interschool Swimming Sports in early March.
Wow! So busy so far! We are also thinking about the emergency that is occurring across the ditch in Victoria, Australia…look for more about our thoughts later on!
